A downloadable game for Windows

Hi Itch.io community,

We are an indie game studio, Peeking Duck Studios, registered in the Bahamas with our team in San Francisco, Vancouver and Seoul. We are a team of 10 game devs and 1 social marketing person.   This is our beta pre v1 build, and we expect to launch our beta v1 build by the end of this year.

Our game is built on Unity, Photon Fusion and we use Unity Multiplay. The download link is for the exe for our launcher. We have used Digicert for our code signing.

The game is fully multiplayer, there are no bots and it is based off of the Worm's game loop, but with a twist. It is a turn-based 3rd person shooter, the twist is that the entire level is randomly destructible and there is environment, particle, collision, knockback and fall damage.

MAYG: My Angry Yakuza Girlfriend https://www.mayg.io/

The lore and premise of the game is that it is set in the late 90's Tokyo Japan. The main character, Miki-san, is the grand daughter of the richest oyabun Yakuza boss in Japan and he has decided that Miki will take over the entire Yakuza clan.  Even though she was raised to be a boss and a ruthless killer, she is known to be a typical Ginza rich girl and her grandfather's rivals decide to kidnap you, the lovable game developer boyfriend, to dissuade her from taking up her birthright. Instead she decides to embrace her destiny and go to the Tokyo nightclub to beat the crap out of the whoever is in her way to save you.

The game is meant to be social competitive and quirky. The weapons are all luxury type of weapons from a black metal credit card (ninja star), cellphone (global flare), crocodile handbag (missile), carry on luggage (suitcase nuke), and champagne bottle (grenade). There is ragdoll body physics and really ugly NPCs.

Gamer Persona (who we thought of when designing the gameplay)
Our design gamer persona is crazy rich Asian moms, in terms of who we think will get a kick from all the details in it, as well as the character skins and accessories which are dresses, jewelry and shoes (that can all level up as well). So we wanted the game to be less twitch focus and more strategic.  Of course, it really is anyone who finds the game fun.

Pre-beta v1 Build

As a pre-beta v1 build, we are still optimizing the lag caused by the multiplayer sync as our game has a lot of network objects. Also, there are still a number of reoccurring bugs, game play framework really depends on if you're lucky enough to be with other gamers who have good connections and the game still needs a lot of visual polish - and polish in general, but we think we have the gameplay to where it should be.  So because its not fully optimized the game specs required are:

i5 intel or greater, 16mb of ram, dedicated video card, 3 gb of storage and at least 50mb up/down (servers are in US west), if you can play dota2 on high settings, you'll all good.

Web3 - The kiss of death
Lastly, game is a web3 game. We didn't mean to catfish you - the indie gamer- by putting this at the end but we use NFTs, and will have a full cryptocurrency in-game token.  We do understand there is a lot of justified disgust when it comes to web3 crypto 'gaming' bros who call themselves degens and 99.9% of most crypto and web3 gaming projects are done by scammers. So while it's highly unlikely for us to ask you to give the benefit of the doubt, here goes anyway.

1. We have a policy to only give our NFT for free to those who are gamers, even though we've been in the web3 gaming space since September 2021, we have never been able to give out our NFTs completely because there were so few actual gamers in the space.

2. Most legit traditional game studios and founders that have entered into web3 have left the space because building in public is hard, and its harder when there are raging users who are more concerned about getting a return or free money in exchange for them tweeting about you.

3. While we are active in the space, we are fairly marginalized compared to the effort we have put in, but we have managed to get about 150 alpha testers over the past year who have play tested our alpha over a period of 6 months.

4. Because we were self funded, and did not get any token funds or vcs on board to release a token or sell NFTs, we have been able to do what we want to do and simply go for launching our game.

5. We've waited until this point to come on itch.io because we did want to put our best foot forward and if you come in for an official game night, I am sure you'll see that not all gamers in web3 are degenerate assholes (most are, but our tiny few aren't, again by default in making a web3 game we are relatively assholes anyway).

6. We do have partners in the space that we have raised from, but they have the same goals as us and you'll find them to be game focused and gamer first.

7. The innovation we are looking for to see -if it works- is creating a fully open economy and have our NFT holders be part of the game's ecosystem of operators - sorry if that is quite heady, but we aren't building a web3 game for ownership or token trading, but to see if we can create an independent sustainable game ecosystem economy (games that are linked by the same economy) that has a floating token to be used in the gameplay economy itself as well as for promotional incentives - without the whole system being a ponzi.

We wanted to give these points a preamble that we are serious real passionate game developers and that our indie game is trying to do something fun and innovative in the space. Finally - both our studio head and producer came out of retirement to do this project with me. I'm 49, been in esports since 1998, part of WCG in 2000-2001, was an early executive advisor for Teamliquid, was an executive for Pokerstars in Asia 2007-2010 as the regional director and was part of the Korea esports SCBW seen on the industry side as well. I was a traditional card game designer for retention, loyal and tournament systems. So I'm the game designer. The studio head is Lukasz Drozdek, mid-50's and worked for Secret level Sega and launched the Iron Man PS2 game as the environment level lead designer.  And our senior producer Danny, early-60's started at Accolade, was a senior corporate producer at EA, launched the Tiger Woods series, and was also the Bandai Namco Casual game studio head until they merge it back with the main studio.

We made our game the old school pc/console way with a lot of prototyping, a lot of discussion, and a lot of rollbacks, while always keeping an eye on not losing the fun. Our team has shipped games, but we came together because we thought there was something amazing about trying to make a social competitive game that was outrageous, but also was innovative in having an open economy.   Here is a video of our actual game development  - its age restricted because we use tokens in the game and we don't want minors to play it.

Regardless of how much negativity, we will get from hosting here, it deservedly goes with the territory, but if our game is legitimate, then we need to start this to actually have real gamers play and hopefully enjoy it.

If someone from the itch.io community does actually enjoy playing the game, think it has potential and would like to have an NFT to play all the games and see what its about more, we are happy to send you one for free. We can do it in the most painless way possible - but again, you don't need an NFT to start to play.  We also haven't made the tokens yet, as we are taking this time to test out the game economy.

Starting from July 25th, 2024- we will be having constant game nights running where they will be at least 10-15 players there from our community.  The schedule is as follows:
UK 8pm-10pm

US est 8pm-10pm

US pst 8pm -10pm

Singapore 8pm-10pm

Aside from just trying to make a fun indie game, we realize that we also have to accept that because we have NFTs in our game and call it a web3 game, that its another big negative against us, but we've worked hard on it and while the game may not be good enough to stand on its own without the open economy model of NFTs and tokens, its was designed be greater than its sum - making any game is extremely difficult, and making any game purely fun, even more so, so yes, honestly, we are leveraging web3 to give us every edge to make a game that is fun in its own unique way.  Getting crapped on both sides of the fence suck, but hell, its worth it cause its a game we wanted to make.

Sincerely,

Peeking Duck Studios
